Day of Surgery
You will receive a call between 8:30am – 10:30am the day before your surgery to confirm the time of your surgery. Please arrive 2 hours before that time. Shower/bathe the night before or the morning of your surgery. Do not eat after midnight the day before your surgery. Up to 8 hours before your surgery you may drink clear fluids:
- Water
- Apple Juice
- Black Coffee
- Milk/Cream
- Orange/Citrus Juice
On the day of surgery do not take anything orally including gum, candy, or water. Your surgery may be cancelled. Why? This is a precaution to reduce the risk of airway complications during surgery.
If you have a cough, cold or fever within 3 days of your surgery date please contact us.
Surgery Day
Please check-in at the Surgery Reception Desk on the 8th floor of Women’s College Hospital 2 hours before your surgery time.
You must have a responsible adult take you home and stay with you overnight. Your surgery will be cancelled otherwise. Why? Anaesthetics and other medications used during your surgery affect your mental and physical function. Since most of our patients do not stay overnight this is a mandatory safety precaution.
