PRP Costs
The cost of a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection for orthopedic conditions can vary widely based on several factors, including the type of PRP product, the geographical location, the specific medical practice, the physician’s expertise, and the particular orthopedic condition being treated. Generally, PRP injections are not typically covered by insurance because they are considered an experimental or investigational treatment for orthopedic conditions.
Here is a breakdown of potential costs:
The cost of a single PRP injection can range from $800 to $1800 CAD. This variation in price depends on the type. At Hyper Regen Sports Medicine, the costs for PRP treatment is as follows:
- Arthrex Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP) – $800
- Arthrex Autologous Conditioned Plasma MAX – $1,200
- Zimmer Biomet N-Stride: $1,800
Often, multiple PRP injections may be recommended for optimal results. The total cost will increase with the number of sessions required, which can range from one to three injections spaced several weeks apart. Generally 2-3 injections of ACP are required whereas ACP MAX and N-Stride treatments consist of a single injection.
In addition to the cost of the PRP injection itself, there may be additional fees for the initial consultation, follow-up visits, and imaging studies (e.g. procedural ultrasound) if needed.
Physicians with specialized training or significant experience in administering PRP injections, especially those who treat professional athletes or work in sports medicine clinics, may charge higher fees.
The cost can also depend on whether the injection is performed in a physician’s office, a specialized orthopedic clinic, or a hospital outpatient department.
